Akesu region plans to compress 700,000 acres of cotton planting area in 2018

As a cotton cultivation area, Aksu District plans to reduce the cotton planting area in 2018. By optimizing the regional layout and variety structure of cotton, it will continue to increase the structural reforms on the agricultural supply side, realize the quality improvement of the cotton industry, increase the income of cotton farmers, and consolidate the region. National strategic base for high-quality commodity cotton.

The reporter learned from the Aksu Prefecture Bureau of Agriculture on April 1 that according to the concept of “controlling area, optimizing varieties, promoting machine harvesting, and improving quality and efficiency”, Aksu Prefecture will control the cotton planting area within 7.2 million mu, which is the same period in 2017. The reduction of 700,000 mu, and in terms of cotton production, it strives to produce 130 kg or more of lint, which is more than 3 kg more than in 2017.

According to the person in charge of the Aksu Prefecture Bureau of Agriculture, cotton cultivation is an important pillar of the rural economy in the region and one of the important sources of farmers’ income. It is also an important carrier for absorbing rural labor force. In the future, the Akesu region will highlight the quality and benefits of cotton products, optimize planting structure, fine-tune and strengthen the cotton industry, promote the healthy development of the cotton industry, and boost poverty alleviation.

The Aksu region requires all counties (cities) to strive for a three-year period from 2018 to resolutely withdraw cotton cultivation from the risky cotton area and the secondary cotton area. We will do a good job in the construction of cotton production bases, and guide cotton cultivation to concentrate on the development of advantageous producing areas. We will establish high-standard cotton field demonstration areas in seven counties (cities) including Aksu, Shaya and Awati counties. The demonstration area will cover an area of 3 million mu. . At the same time, the region will also optimize the structure of cotton varieties, continue to improve the quality of cotton, and achieve cost-effectiveness. In order to reduce the production costs such as cotton planting and harvesting, the region will also vigorously promote the machine-picking cotton planting model.

It is reported that by compressing the land saved from the cotton planting area, the Aksu region will steadily promote the development of facility agriculture, accelerate the development of characteristic industries, develop characteristic crops and order agricultural production according to local conditions, actively explore the diversified planting mode under the forest, and expand it appropriately. The scale of cultivation of small grains such as beans, potatoes, and cereals will continue to expand the scale of specialty agricultural products such as potatoes, processed tomatoes, pigmented peppers and beets, and realize the diversified development of the rural economy.
