On April 9, the 50th annual meeting of the International Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues (CCPR) was held in Haikou, Hainan Province. This conference is the twelfth conference hosted by China. The conference has 13 issues.
The Codex Alimentarius Residue Committee of the International Codex Alimentarius Commission is a subsidiary committee of the International Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), an international standards organization for food safety jointly established by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the World Health Organization. It plays an important role in the development of Codex standards. Over the past 50 years, the Commission has established nearly 5,000 international standards for pesticide residues and has become the most comprehensive subject committee in the Codex Alimentarius Commission. More than 300 representatives from 51 member states, 1 member organization (EU) and 13 international organizations attended the meeting.
Ma Aiguo, the chief agronomist of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, said at the opening ceremony that the Chinese government attaches great importance to food safety. Since 2016, China has established more than 1,000 pesticide residue standards each year. By 2020, the pesticide residue standard will exceed 10,000; since 2015, , The use of pesticides has been negative for three consecutive years; in recent years, 39 highly toxic and high-risk pesticides have been banned, and the remaining 10 highly toxic pesticides have been gradually banned within 5 years; 102 active pesticides have been registered, accounting for 16% of pesticide registrations. In recent years, it has increased at a rate of about 4%. The year 2018 is the beginning of the implementation of the village rejuvenation strategy and is also the “year of agricultural quality” in China. China will implement the relevant laws and regulations, insist on quality agriculture, green agriculture, and brand strong agriculture, vigorously promote standardized production, and effectively strengthen the monitoring of pesticide residues to ensure the quality and safety of agricultural products. At the same time, it further fulfilled the duties of the Chairman of the Codex Alimentarius Commission of the International Codex Alimentarius and jointly promoted the development of international standards, striving to achieve more fruitful results.
