On January 16, 2018, the European Union has announced three Commission Regulations amending Annexes II, III and IV to Directive 2005/396/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council with regard to maximum residue levels (MRL) for pesticide in or on food and feed of plant and animal origin.
Maximum Residue Levels for Pesticides in Certain Products
The changes and amendments in these three Commission Regulations (EU) relate to the MRLs for pesticide residues of ametoctradin, chlorpyrifos-methyl, cyproconazole, difenoconazole, fluazinam, flutriafol, prohexadione, sodium chloride, 2-phenylphenol, bensulfuron-methyl, dimethachlor, lufenuron and mercury compounds, in or on, certain products imported to the EU. Details of the changes are shown in table 1.

Amendments to the Commission Regulation Â
- The changes to the MRLs for residues of ametoctradin, chlorpyrifos-methyl, cyproconazole, difenoconazole, fluazinam, flutriafol, prohexadione, and sodium chloride in granate apples/pomegranates, kaki/Japanese persimmons, borage seeds, apricots, strawberries, head brassica, lettuces and salad plants, chards/beet leaves, herbs and edible flowers, leeks, rhubarbs, pulse (except peas), barley, root and rhizome spices, garlic, onions, shallots, hops, plums in Commission Regulation (EU) No 2018/70 of January 16, 2018 shall apply from February 6, 2018.
- The changes to the MRLs for mercury compounds in tree nuts, herb and edible flowers, cultivated fungi, wild fungi, oilseeds, teas, coffee beans, herbal infusions from, cocoa beans, spices and products of animal origin-terrestrial animals in Commission Regulation (EU) No 2018/73 of January 16, 2018 shall apply from February 7, 2018.
- The changes to the MRL’s for 2-phenylphenol, bensulfuron-methyl, dimethachlor and lufenuron in fruits & vegetables, fresh or frozen; tree nuts (except algae and prokaryotes organisms), pulses, oilseeds and oil fruits, cereals, teas, coffee, herbal infusions, cocoa and carobs, hops, spices, sugar plants, products of animal origin-terrestrial animals in Commission Regulation (EU) No 2018/78 of January 16, 2018 shall apply from August 8, 2018.
