The European Commission has proposed that the approval of the active substance desmedipham will not be renewed.

According to the Commission, EU member states shall withdraw authorisations for products containing desmedipham as active substance by 6 months at the latest from the date of this regulation entry into force. Any grace period granted by member states shall expire by 12 months at the latest.

Desmedipham is a herbicide used in the post-emergence stage of beets (sugar and fodder), to control broad-leaved weeds.

This Regulation does not prevent the submission of a further application for the approval of desmedipham pursuant to Article 7 of Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009.

The final date for comments is April 27, 2019.
