The country will reduce the acreage of 20 million mu of corn in 2017

Towards the end of the year, as a major task of promoting the structural reform of the agricultural supply side, the estimated area of corn acreage in China will be reduced by about 20 million mu in order to reduce ineffective supply.

Reduced maize acreage is mainly concentrated in areas known as “sickle bend” maize non-dominant areas. This area includes the northeast cold area, the north farming and pasturing area, the northwest wind and sand arid area, the Taihang mountain area and the southwest rocky desertification area. The topographic map shows the northeast to North China – Southwest – Northwest sickle curved distribution, fragile ecological environment Corn production is low and unstable.

In 2016, our country adjusted the policy of temporarily purchasing and storing corn in the three northeastern provinces and Inner Mongolia to a new mechanism of market-based acquisition and subsidy. After a year of hard work, the price of corn began to return to the market and promoted the adjustment and optimization of the agricultural planting structure. In the same year, the area under grain corn cultivation in the country dropped by 30 million mu, the first decline in 13 years.

While reducing the supply of ineffective supplies, China actively increased its effective supply. The soybean shortage in the market increased by 8.71 million mu, that of miscellaneous grains and miscellaneous beans increased by about 6 million mu, that of silage corn and fine forage increased by about 5 million mu, and that of potato increased by about 200 million mu .

In the meantime, the area of oilseed increased steadily and cottonseed acreage increased for the first time in recent years. Fruit and vegetable tea continued to maintain a good momentum of development and production and income were increased.
