Recently, the “Evaluation Report on Fertilizer Utilization Efficiency (Fertilizer Consumption) in China (2000-2015)” (hereinafter referred to as the “Report”) jointly prepared by the Renmin University of China and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, edited by the Rural Economic Research Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, Press published. This is the first report on the evaluation of fertilizer use efficiency issued by official research institutes in China.

According to Jin Shuqin, deputy director of the Sustainable Development Research Office of the Rural Economy Research Center under the Ministry of Agriculture, the Report uses the “fertilizer consumption” (input of fertilizer per unit of agricultural products) as a measure of efficiency, with all data from the National Bureau of Statistics , National Development and Reform Commission publicly released yearbook and statistical information.
The report provides a trend analysis of the fertilizer use efficiency of 11 major crops in the country during 2000-2015. The results showed that the level of fertilizer consumption of main grain crops tended to be stable, and the level of fertilizer consumption of wheat, maize and rice were fluctuated up to 65g / kg, 50g / kg and 45g / kg, respectively. The level of fertilizer consumption of major oilseed crops In 2015, the fertilizer consumption of peanut, rapeseed and soybean was 85 g / kg, 115 g / kg and 60 g / kg, respectively. The rising trend of fertilizer consumption of economic crops such as sugar cane, cotton and apple was more obvious.
The report assessed the implementation of the Zero Fertilizer Initiative in 2015 by provinces and found that the overall growth rate of total fertilizer application in the country was reduced to 0.4%, reaching the annual target of less than 1%. In terms of chemical fertilization reduction The difference is obvious. The total amount and intensity of chemical fertilizer use in nine provinces were double-reduced; the total amount of three provinces decreased and the intensity increased; the total amount of five provinces increased and the intensity decreased; and the total volume and intensity of 14 provinces double-increased. Among them, Hubei Province made the largest contribution to reduction and the total amount of use was reduced by 144,000 tons.
The Report compares the fertilizer consumption of the same crops planted in different provinces. It divides the main producing areas of each type of crops into high, medium and low levels of fertilizer consumption, which can be used as the basis for the future restructuring of the planting industry .

Wei Qi, party secretary of the Rural Economic Research Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, said at present, under the guidance of the 19th CPC National Spirit, advancing the green development of agriculture is the fundamental requirement of the “three rural” work in the new era. In recent years, researchers from Agricultural Research Center have closely supported the national needs and provided strong support for the formulation of relevant policies in non-point source pollution control, chemical fertilizers and pesticide reduction, and agricultural green development. The research results have been repeatedly given important instructions by the leading comrades of the central and ministries and commissions This report is a continuation of the previous research results and is also an important result of the agricultural research center building a high-end think tank for agriculture, rural areas and farmers. Through this report, it can be judged that the goal of achieving zero growth of chemical fertilizer use during the 13th Five-Year Plan period can be expected. The next step will be to further deepen the research, promote more similar results, serve decision-making and convey more useful information to the society.
